Course Description
Date: 10th July 2025. Time: 10am - 4pm. What is this course about? This awareness-raising training course is aimed at both the general public and professionals who work with marginalised communities, such as refugees and people seeking asylum. It aims to break apart myths, and shed light on the realities faced by people seeking asylum in the United Kingdom. Covering both academic and practical insights, this course is ideal for those who know little to nothing about the lives of people seeking asylum, and the challenges that they face in the United Kingdom. Course curriculum: - Understanding key terms and concepts - What is the UN Refugee Convention? - The global world and the movement of people: theories and perspectives - Why leave? Understanding the movement of people - Why go? Understanding why people choose where to go - Surviving or thriving? Laws, processes, and life as a person seeking asylum in the United Kingdom - Anti-migrant stigma, prejudice and discrimination - Intersectional challenges and identities: women, children, and queer people seeking asylum - What support do people seeking asylum need? Course facilitators: Drew Dalton (He/Him) Drew is an award-winning activist, TEDx speaker, academic, researcher, and writer. He is the founder and CEO of ReportOUT, a global LGBTQ+ human rights organisation. Drew has significant experience in working and supporting LGBTQ+ people seeking asylum in the United Kingdom, supporting court cases and providing practical support. Elias Sahardid (He/Him) Elias has over a decade of experience working with refugees, asylum seekers, and marginalised communities across the UK. Drawing on his own lived experience of the asylum system, he leads RAI Academy, an accredited education provider offering accessible training and qualifications that support refugee integration and empowerment. A full course certificate will be provided for CPD purposes.

Cancellation Policy
Our booking, refund, and cancellation policy: Bookings: You can book a place up until 12 hours before the course starts. You can book up to a maximum of ten people on this course in one booking. We cannot accept bookings once the course has started. Refund and cancellation: You can cancel your own booking via this website up to 24 hours before the course starts. You will be eligible for a refund by contacting the site owner, which can only be returned by payment back to your bank account. However, if you have booked and paid for the course, have not cancelled in 24 hours before the course has started, or the course has started and/or finished, you cannot claim a refund for non-attendance.
